With its natural unpeeled rattan frame, all in gentle curves, the Marlène high-back armchair is typical of vintage rattan from the 1960s. Lightweight, robust and high backed (so you can rest your head), it is still very comfortable even without a cushion, thanks to the many "filets" (rattan sticks) that are ergonomically placed on the seat and backrest of the chair. These rattan sticks mean the armchair can be used without cushions and allow air to circulate, providing pleasant natural ventilation in the height of summer. Once you've experienced its comfort, you'll want to move it from the living room to the verandah or to the covered terrace on sunny days.

This range of rattan armchairs was born in the 1950s in the Benelux countries and Northern France, where it is still called an "achtzetel" (a "figure of eight armchair" in Dutch) or a "belgische acht" (a Belgian "eight"), due to the construction of its curved foot... in the shape of a flat figure 8. This very clever way of working exploits the immense bending capacity of rattan, to create a skate-shaped base that is as robust as it is aesthetically pleasing. All the independent rattan craftsmen of the time competed with each other to offer the most beautiful at the best price. KOK manufactured tens of thousands of them, shipped by wagon-loads to Parisian department stores and boutiques throughout France. It is with pride and great pleasure that we are reviving it today.
