After they graduated from ENSCI-Les Ateliers, Amandine Chhor and Aïssa Logerot started their careers by working five years for prestigious architecture and design agencies, and companies, such as Hermès. From 2009 to 2012, they collaborated on contemporary design projects using sustainable craft techniques in developing countries like Cambodia, Morocco and Cameroun.
The duo founded their own design studio in Paris in 2013. They want to create objects with a story and with a perfect balance between function, shape and manufacturing. Passionate about materials, crafts and manufacturing, they draw products and furniture that enhance usefulness and simplicity. Their precise, elegant and simple lines give identity to their design.
For Orchid Edition, they created the PLUS and CONTOUR armchairs, the TRAVERSE bench and LASSO mirrors, mixing cane webbing, metal, fabric with rattan and using the flexibility of rattan for elegant and rounded shapes.
"In the designs proposed by the ACAL studio, it is the lightness that has won me over. Nothing is too much, everything is in its right place. The canes are linked by a set of curves without embellishment. The combination of rattan and metal avoids the need to add rattan, which is often necessary to make the structure solid. And the French webbing pattern adds transparency." Tina Ledi
