The Gingko ‘Horizon’ rattan chair takes its name from the horizontal pattern on the back, which emphasises the curves and scrolls of the rest of the chair. The Gingko rattan chair combines extreme lightness with exceptional strength, thanks to the use of a small-diameter but very dense variety of rattan. The arrangement of arches, scrolls and ligatures contributes to the overall solidity and aesthetic appeal of the chair. The designers, Lauriane Beaunier and Aurélien Veyrat, drew their inspiration from traditional Indonesian methods, where nothing is superfluous but the natural flexibility of rattan has to be taken into account. The result is a line that is as graceful as it is sophisticated, using only the bare essentials of a 100% natural material.

The Gingko rattan chair: a blend of 3 types of rattan
The structure of the Gingko rattan chair is built from a species of rattan renowned for its robustness, Tohiti. A fairly rare rattan, available in small diameters (between 15 and 25 mm), it is particularly well suited to the light spirit of the Gingko chair.
The horizontal pattern on the backrest is made from ‘rattan core’, a strand drawn from a larger cane. Special varieties of rattan are used for the rattan core, which is highly fibrous and very regular, but less dense.
The seat weave is woven from rattan skin, the bark of a rattan cane that is peeled and recalibrated to produce a regular lace. Special rattans are used for the skin, with very few knots, but with very resistant bark and a beautiful light honey colour. Shades can be seen from one strand to another.
The three varieties that make up the Gingko rattan chair come from different islands in the Indonesian archipelago, which is over 5,000 km wide and has more than 300 different rattan varieties.

A rattan chair is not garden furniture. It can be taken outside during the day when the weather is fine, but should be taken inside in the evening, preferably in the shade. A rattan chair is easily cleaned with a damp cloth and a little diluted Marseille soap, and dusted with a soft brush. Avoid strong cleaning products and detergents. Rattan does not like dry conditions and can become brittle (binding, seat braiding). If your rattan chair is installed in a well-heated room in winter, it may be a good idea to dampen it from time to time with a spray bottle.
